Pioneer, What's New With You?
Hello everyone, I am back again with another blog, however this one shall be a little short than usual.
First of all...
Just finished watching the pilot episode of Pioneer One, available here,
vodo.net/pioneeroneWithout giving anything away I can definitely say that this show doesn't have that same polish that something like a show on Fox or NBC might have, but given that it is low budget, this is definitely palpable. Now before anyone criticizes a single aspect of this show you must consider the most epic part about it. It is free and freely distributed amongst the largest torrent websites on the internet. The Pirate Bay being the biggest I can think of.
Sure torrents may be the center of attention when it comes to piracy, but torrenting is easily one of the best ways for up and coming artists of all walks of life to share content with the world.
Now at the present time I have not the means to donate in support of the next episode, but even so I highly commend the efforts put forth in this history making event. I mean I can recall no instance before this time in which a TV show was created on a small budget, shared via torrent websites and rallied its support via donations.
My recommendation is if not for the show itself, I at least recommend that you all check it out for the sake of what it is and how it is being distributed.
P.S. if you have any questions about torrents and torrenting, do not hesitate to ask.
Now for this next part I am just going to freeform throw a bunch of random thoughts out there just to let people know what's going on.
Ok. Tuesday, the 22nd, the first official 3D Blu-Ray (Cloudy With a Chance of Meatballs) can be purchased as a standalone and not as part of some bundle with a TV/Blu-Ray player. It's a combo pack so it's totally worth it.
Apparently, a chain of stores out in California were giving away copies of Avatar on Blu-Ray combo pack for $5. All you had to do was show up with a coupon. Limit one.
U2 released a Blu-Ray concert video of their 360 tour a few weeks back. A super deluxe combo pack with a bunch of "collectibles" comes out this Tuesday the 22nd.
I recently acquired War of the Worlds on Blu-Ray. The audio in that movie is pure pleasure for your ears (assuming you have a good quality setup. Standard 2.0 won't do).
I recently acquired Close Encounters of the Third Kind on Blu-Ray for only $15 plus tax. Haven't seen this one yet, ever, so do not ruin it for me.
This past week I had the pleasure of playing games on a really good computer (You know... Quad core processor, 6GB of Ram, top of the line video card). If I may make a reference to the oft criticized show, "Beavis and Buttehead", I would simply say, "I have seen the top of the mountain and it is good!"
Almost a month ago I got a new game, ModNation Racers. Without a doubt it is easily the best Kart racing game ever made. Sans any problematic loading times, this game is perfect er well at least perfect given the genre it is in.
So, E3 was this past week. Microsoft and Kinect; What can I say? Interesting technology, with an unadvertised good value, but it only offers limited enjoyment. Kinectimals and video chat? Seriously? I will give them credit for Dance Central and even half credit for Kinect Adventures, but nothing else wowed me enough to want to buy an Xbox 360 and Kinect. Also, no first person shooters or games that would appeal to Halo fans were showcased for Kinect.
Sony, 3D, and the Playstation Move. Sony knows where it is at. First of all Stereoscopic 3D and I stress the word stereoscopic as in not Anaglryphic is the most amazing 3D available. As for the Playstation Move, well let's just say Microsoft and Nintendo stand no chance. Microsoft doesn't offer buttons, so you can forgot about first person shooters and although Nintendo may advertise their WiiMotion Plus gives you 1:1 motion controls even in Wii Sports their controls still seem a little imperfect. Plus was Nintendo having technical difficulties showing off Zelda: Skyward Sword live on stage? Yes, so score one for Sony. Plus I mean Killzone 3 in 3D with Move support, assuming gameplay is good, what could be better?
Oh by the way did I see that correctly, Gabe Newell from Valve showed up in the middle of the Sony conference to admit his distaste for the PS3 may have been out of place and that we can expect Portal 2 on the PS3 next year, where it will include the ability to be upgraded much like it would on the PC version.
Oh and one other thing; Kevin Butler! I need not say anything else other then that he totally slammed Nintendo and Microsoft.
As for Nintendo, I do have to give them credit I mean they gave us the following:
Zelda: Skyward Sword (Awesome)
Kirby: Epic Yarn (Kirby on Wii, awesome!)
Mario Sports Mix (More Mario sports games are always welcomed)
Donkey Kong Country Returns (On the Wii and made by Retro Studios, Epic!)
GOLDENEYE 007!!! (Heck yea this will be awesome, if only it could be on a good platform that support HD and such).
Nintendo also unveiled the 3DS which features an autostereoscopic 3D display along with a 3D front facing camera, an analog stick, and all the other usual items you would expect.
For that Nintnedo announced the following:
Kid Icarus (look great, graphically, not necessarily something I'd play)
an Ocarina of Time remaster in 3D for the 3DS (Unofficially Official)
a Star Fox 64 remaster
That and so much more.
Speaking of Nintendo, another group remix album was released a couple months back, based on the music of Donkey Kong Country 2, entitled, Serious Monkey Business. You can get the album here,
dkc2.ocremix.org/From the minute the first song begins until the albums ends you'll feel like you've been transported back into the game.I listened to this album numerious times already and I definitely have some favorite tracks. I would easily quote this as one of OCRemix's best albums to date, but I wouldn't say it's perfect.
Now because my mind is running out of interesting thoughts I will close with one final, unique thought; Gran Turismo 5. That's right it has been announced that the game will launch November 2nd, 2010 and will feature 3D support, plus over 950+ cars. Sure the 360 Fanboys may have Forza 3 and the just announced Forza with Kinect support, but come November 2nd, all those fanboys will have nothing to talk about.
In closing all I know is that the Playstation Move comes out Septemeber 19th, 2010, so can you guess where I'll be that day? That's right!
If you have any questions about any of the things I mentioned in this blog doesn't hesitate to drop a comment and I'll hit you up with a reply.
So until next time...
